Ingredients
- 64g Whole-wheat bread
- 65g Whole milk ricotta cheese
- 25g Dried figs
- 6g Granulated sugar
Method
- 1Preheat your toaster oven or regular toaster to medium-high heat (around 400°F if using an oven).
- 2Slice the whole-wheat bread into 2 slices of even thickness (approximately ½ inch thick).
- 3Place the bread slices on a toaster oven tray or directly in your toaster. Toast for 2-3 minutes until golden brown and crispy, but still slightly soft inside. The toast should have visible browning but not be burnt.
- 4While the bread is toasting, prepare the topping. Scoop the whole milk ricotta cheese (approximately ¼ cup) into a small bowl. If desired, you can gently stir it to loosen the texture, but whole ricotta is naturally spreadable.
- 5Remove the toast from the toaster and place on a serving plate. Working quickly while the toast is still warm, spread approximately 2-3 tablespoons of ricotta evenly on each slice, leaving about ¼ inch border around the edges.
- 6Roughly chop or leave whole the 3 dried figs. Distribute them evenly over the ricotta on both toast slices, pressing gently so they adhere to the creamy cheese.
- 7Drizzle approximately 1½ teaspoons of honey over each slice. You can warm the honey slightly in a microwave (10-15 seconds) for easier drizzling, or use it at room temperature.
- 8Serve immediately while the toast is still warm and the ricotta is soft. The warmth of the toast will slightly warm the ricotta and help meld the flavors together.
- 9Optional finishing touches: A light sprinkle of sea salt or fresh cracked black pepper can add sophisticated depth to balance the sweetness.
